Injured Worker Lifted Out Of Ballston Construction Site Thursday

BALLSTON, VA — Arlington County Fire & Rescue personnel used a crane and a stokes basket Thursday morning to remove an injured worker from a Clarendon construction site, according to a post on the department's official Twitter account. Units responded around 11:19 a..m. to a construction worksite in the 600 block of North Glebe Road for the report of an injury. Arriving on the scene, rescue personnel discovered that an injured worker was located several stories below street level with no easy means of access that would allow for his removal, according to Lt. Nate Hiner, an ACFD public information officer. Using an onsite crane and a stokes basket, the rescuers were able to lift the injured worker to street level. An ambulance then transported him to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to Hiner. The total time between dispatch and rescue was 30 minutes. Hinder said that it was unclear how the worker had become injured. Yesterday our Technical Rescue Team responded for an injured individual located several stories below street level.
