OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — Ocean County and New Jersey have seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for each town? (See town-by-town totals below.) The county averaged 184 new cases per day in the past week, while averaging 196 new daily cases the prior week, according to the Ocean County Health Department. The seven-day change is a decrease from last week and slightly lower than average for the week ending Sept. 17, and means many smaller municipalities may have only a few new infections in the last week, or even none. The county health department said about 80 percent of the new positive coronavirus cases are in people who have not been vaccinated against the virus. Among the 20 percent of people who are vaccinated and have breakthrough infections, the symptoms have been mild. There have been no deaths in Ocean County from the virus among breakthrough cases. Officials continue to monitor the delta variant, which accounted for 98.97 percent of coronavirus cases in New Jersey over a four-week period ending on Sept. 11, CDC numbers show. The CDC variant proportions are based on representative CDC sequencing data gathered during that four-week period. There were 2,826 New Jersey samples that underwent sequencing during that time. Ocean County and all of the Central Jersey East region has "high" COVID-19 activity, according to New Jersey's latest weekly report. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses. The region has the third-highest case rate in the state at 19.73 cases per 100,000 and a 5.65 percent positivity rate. The information on hospitalizations in Ocean County on the county Health Department website has not been updated since data for Sept. 14. The county does not provide a breakdown by age for the recent hospitalizations, nor does the county have a breakdown by day of how many COVID patients have been released from hospitals. The Ocean County Health Department data includes the seven-day town-by-town case totals. It also includes a breakdown by age of how many cases have been diagnosed in each age group. The age breakdown is as follows for new cases reported as of Sept. 9: 0-18, 308; 19-44, 533; 45-64, 288; 65-74, 88; 75-84, 46; 85+, 24; total 1,287 The seven-day totals for Ocean County as of Oct. 1 are as follows: Barnegat Light: 0 new cases, 40 total cases, 0 percent increaseBarnegat Township: 49, 2,458 total cases, 1.99 percent increaseBay Head: 1 new case, 94 total cases, 1.08 percent increaseBeach Haven: 0 new cases, 93 total cases, 0 percent increaseBeachwood: 34 new cases, 1,387 total cases, 2.51 percent increaseBerkeley Township: 97 new cases, 5,088 total cases, 1.94 percent increaseBrick Township: 220 new cases, 10,635 total cases, 2.11 percent increaseEagleswood Township: 1 new case, 186 total cases, 0.54 percent increaseHarvey Cedars: 0 new cases, 22 total cases, 0 percent increaseIsland Heights: 6 new cases, 162 total cases, 3.85 percent increaseJackson Township: 123 new cases, 7,592 total cases, 1.66 percent increaseLacey Township: 59 new cases, 3,216 total cases, 1.83 percent increaseLakehurst: 5 new cases, 357 total cases, 1.42 percent increaseLakewood: 287 new cases, 15,337 total cases, 1.91 percent increaseLavallette: 2 new cases, 201 total cases, 1.01 percent increaseLittle Egg Harbor Township: 45 new cases, 2,123 total cases, 2.17 percent increaseLong Beach Township: 5 new cases, 242 total cases, 2.07 percent increaseManchester: 46 new cases, 4,933 total cases, 0.94 percent increaseMantoloking: 0 new cases, 30 total cases, 0 percent increaseOcean Gate: 2 new cases, 212 total cases, 0.95 percent increaseOcean Twp.
