Let's take a quick look at Saturday's weather: Mostly sunny and comfortable. High: 80 Low: 65. Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today: One person was injured, and another died, after a two vehicle collision near Market Common on Thursday. Myrtle Beach Police say 28-year-old Katherine Rager of Conway was taken to Grand Strand Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Another person involved in the crash was injured. MB Police are investigating the crash. (MyHorryNews.com)A North Myrtle Beach man died after being injured in a crash involving a motorcycle and a car that we reported yesterday. Timothy Cournoyer died of his injuries after being taken to the hospital. The crash occurred on Seaboard Street and Commons Avenue on Wednesday. As of the time of this report, it is not clear whether Cournoyer was driving the car, or the motorcycle. Myrtle Beach Police are conducting an investigation. (WMBF)Fatal motorcycle crashes in 2021 throughout South Carolina are up 33% over this date last year, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol. The department suggested that more people purchased motorcycles wanting to get outdoors during the pandemic as one possible reason for the uptick in crashes and deaths. Motorcyclists suggest distracted drivers could be another cause. This year so far, 118 people have been killed in motorcycle accidents, versus the total of 123 deaths in 2020 for the entire year. (WBTW)Horry County leaders are considering preemptive home building setback requirements that would make way for future road-widening plans. The planning commission reviewed a proposal that might make it safer to live along busy roadways in the future, without having property owners lose their front yards or their houses. The proposal would establish a 25-foot buffer for new residential developments on major roadways. (WMBF)The City of Myrtle Beach is prepared to offer a $4,000 moving bonus to new hires moving to the area from outside Horry County. The money comes from the city's general funds, and will be mainly for new police officers. The incentive will be paid upon hiring, but if the new employee leaves the job within one year, they will have to reimburse 100% back to the city.
