Description

EAST GREENWICH, RI — Fall has arrived in southern New England, which means flu season is not far behind. Last year's COVID-19 restrictions and mask mandates meant there were hardly any flu cases in Rhode Island and around the country. This year, the seasonal virus is expected to make a comeback. According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, the flu cases generally peak in February, though cases often start to ramp up in October. Flu shots are recommended for everyone aged 6 months and older, including pregnant women. The CDC indicated that it's safe to get a flu shot concurrently with a COVID-19 vaccine, with no waiting period needed between the doses. Read more about flu vaccines from the Rhode Island Department of Health. The Rhode Island Department of Health has a flu shot locator map to help residents find a clinic near them. To use the tool, search by town or ZIP code, and it will provide a list of nearby pharmacies where shots are available. Appointments are not required for flu vaccines.
