Job Type : Part-timeLocation: North Shore Studio Position Purpose:1:1 Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for working directly with an assigned artist to provide a variety of support, including personal care and behavioral support, to expand access to and participation in the program. 1:1 DSP works closely with their immediate supervisor and the program staff who are responsible for supporting the individual’s professional creative practice. This position may include supporting the assigned individual in their own home as well as at the Arts of Life studio through a partnership with another service provider and may include supporting the artist with transportation. Responsibilities One to One Monitoring, and Support: Maintain detailed tracking of supports and challenges per a support plan, and support to accommodate or mitigate challenges to improve wellness and participation. This may also include intervention in behavioral crises and support with activities of daily living including, but not limited to toileting assistance and mealtime assistance.Activities of Daily Living: Support assigned artist with activities of daily living including, but not limited to toileting assistance and mealtime assistance.Artist Mentoring: Support assigned artist’s creative practice, professional development, and leadership goals. General Supports Supports the assigned artist with daily transportation. Support assigned artist with artmaking, including gathering supplies and organizing work station. Support assigned artists to build and maintain relationships. Quantitative: High school diploma or equivalent.Minimum one year working with people with disabilities.Registered Direct Support Person (DSP) in the state of Illinois or willingness to pursue registration through Arts of Life.A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.Ability to lift/carry at least 44 lbs.,Ability to perform basic physical moves such as kneeling, reaching, crouching, bending, and twisting,CPR and First Aid certification. Knowledge, skills and behaviors: Background in visual arts.A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.Ability to lift/carry up to 44 lbs.,Ability to perform basic physical moves such as kneeling, reaching, crouching,bending, and twisting,Commitment to the process of artistic skill development as an avenue for growth and independence for people with disabilities.
