ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst is being asked to reduce the vehicle sticker fees for pickup trucks. In a memo last month, aldermen Mark Mulliner and Mike Brennan said pickup trucks should be treated the same as cars and SUVs. Currently, owners of pickup trucks pay $72 annually, while car and SUV owners pay $36. "With the increased use of pickup trucks as personal vehicles, we should review and reduce the pickup truck vehicle sticker cost to the same as the rate for cars," the aldermen said. "With many SUVs weighing more than many pickup trucks, the cost should be the same." On Monday, the City Council is expected to vote on whether to send the issue to a committee for review. In 2020, for the first time ever, pickup truck sales surpassed those of cars in the United States, according to Motor Intelligence.
