ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a threatening visitor, a gym theft, a theft of tools, a man falling from a wheelchair, a stolen converter and a bicycle theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Threatening visitor A resident in the 200 block of West Fremont Avenue told police that a man in a car, possibly in an older model BMW, flashed its lights as the car was parked in the resident's driveway. The man got out, approached the front door and waved his fists threateningly. He was described as Hispanic, 18 to 28 years old, heavy set, having a beard, and wearing a maroon Nike hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and white gym shoes. Gym theft A man said someone cut the lock to his locker and stole money from his wallet about 8 p.m. Wednesday at LA Fitness, 620 N. York St. Leaving scene Debra Markello, 64, of Elmhurst, was cited about 8:30 a.m. Monday at Third and York on a charge of leaving the scene of a property damage accident. She was released on bond. Basement well grate open A resident in the 600 block of Hillside Avenue told police Monday his basement's well grate was open and that neither his family members nor his landscapers touched it. Cobwebs were disturbed on the well, but no entry was made. The incident was believed to have happened between Sept. 20 and Sept. 26. Tools theft The rear passenger window of a locked car was broken between 3 p.m. Sept. 23 and 9:30 a.m. Sept. 24 in the 400 block of West Lake Street. Several tools were stolen. Fugitive driver On Tuesday at West and Armitage, an officer saw a black Acura that was reported stolen in Barrington. The officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver sped away. Fall from wheelchair A man in a motorized wheelchair struck a small bump, causing him to fall forward and strike his head on the pavement. It happened at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of North York Street, near McDonald's. An officer saw a large scrape on the man's forehead. Bicycle found A black BMX-style bicycle was found about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of Hawthorne Avenue. The bike was placed into evidence as found property. Converter stolen A person in the 400 block of East Park Avenue called police about 2 a.m. Wednesday about a noise he heard outside. He saw two men near a vehicle. They were seen leaving south on Park. After officers arrived, it was determined the catalytic converter was removed from the car. The metals in converters have become a lot more valuable. Bicycle theft A locked bicycle was stolen between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday from a rack at York High School, 355 W. St. Charles Road. It was a Trek FX 2 mountain bike. Shoplifting An employee at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., was helping a customer when he heard the door's security alarm about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Two women were seen on surveillance video concealing two bottles of Dove body wash and leaving the store without paying. It is unknown how much merchandise was stolen. DUI Edith Costilla Galindo, 39, of Elk Grove Village, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of West North on charges of DUI, operating an uninsured vehicle and improper lane usage. She was released on bond. According to a police report, Galindo struck a guardrail, swerved and nearly struck another car. Warrant Omar Ramirez, 20, of Chicago, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Monday on a DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrant. He turned himself in. He was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
