BOLINGBROOK, IL — Local online show "Bolingbrook Buzz" is back and better than before. The season two premiere of the village's show highlighting local establishments is set for 9 a.m. Saturday. Started during the COVID-19 pandemic, "Bolingbrook Buzz" has been a way to highlight local businesses and introduce people to parts of Bolingbrook they may not have heard of previously. Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta had the vision for the series, and commissioners Jake McVey and Marissa Yelenosky have "taken this on and made it their baby," the mayor said. "I wanted a way to feature our restaurants and our stores and things that we do around the community so that whether you're on the historic part, central side or west side of Bolingbrook, you know what's going on all over Bolingbrook," Alexander-Basta said. Season one, which aired its first episode March 26 — almost a year into the pandemic — started with a look into Two Pints Lounge and went on to showcase businesses like Giepel Chiropractic, CG's Comedy Club and the new coffee shop Kafe Du Monde. "It's great awareness," Alexander-Basta said. "We try to always be engaged with the community, promote staying within our community because we do feel that it has so much to offer. I think you can get everything done right here within the borders of Bolingbrook." Each episode's length depends on the history of an establishment — new or old. Episodes clock in at about 7 minutes each, with the exception of a special "Taste of Bolingbrook 2021" episode aired mid-August. A catalog of the first season's episodes can be found on Facebook. With the second season of the show on the horizon, viewers can expect episodes that are more interactive — compared to the first season where they were primarily informational. In a teaser trailer, hosts are shown taking a car for a car wash, and McVey can also be seen getting a haircut at a local salon. In another episode, Alexander-Basta said she joins the team on a visit to Johansen Farms. So far, Alexander-Basta said residents have liked seeing some of their favorite places highlighted on "Bolingbrook Buzz" while also being introduced to something new. Business owners have also found it to be helpful marketing, she said. The show might only be starting its second season, but the mayor says it's here to stay. And as for what to expect going forward: "Who knows, sky's the limit, right?" the mayor said. (For more news and information like this, subscribe to the Bolingbrook Patch for free.
