Arizona State Fair Begins Friday: What You Need To Know

PHOENIX, AZ — The Arizona State Fair begins its monthlong tenure in Phoenix at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct 1. The fair, at 1826 W. McDowell Road, is set to run Oct. 1-30 but is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. After opening day, the gates will be open from noon-9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and from noon-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. On some days food vendors and other attractions may be open until 11 p.m. Admission prices: Adult, ages 14-54: $12Senior, ages 55: $10Children, ages 5-13: $10Kids 5 and younger: FreeYou can purchase admission and VIP parking tickets online. The schedule for entertainment at the fair includes monster truck shows, all-Indian rodeos, a petting zoo, native spirit dancers and an arm wrestling tournament, in addition to many more activities. There's a long list of tribute bands set to perform during the fair, including artists dedicated to the music of Selena, Queen, Creedance Clearwater Revival and Bad Company. The fair is set to be packed with amusement rides for kids and adults. Students can read three books and write brief summaries of them to receive free ride passes. They must turn in a completed form to receive the free passes. Outside food and drink are not allowed inside the grounds, except for one sealed 20 oz water bottle per person. Alternatively fair-goers can bring one empty reusable water bottle per person. There are bottle filling stations throughout the grounds. While masking isn't required at the fair, it is "more than strongly encouraged."
