Press release from the Birmingham Police Department: 2021-10-01 The Birmingham Police Department reports detectives are conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. The victim has been identified as Misty Dawn Beasley, (42), w/f, of Bessemer, Alabama. At approximately 3:09 p.m., East Precinct Officers responded to the 6300 block of 5th Avenue South on a call of a person down. The victim was found lying on the side of the road. The victim remains were collected by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office and later identified. On September 30, 2021, the Jefferson County Coroner ruled the victim's death a homicide due to strangulation. Detectives have not established a motive in this investigation and searching for additional leads. No arrest has been made and the investigation is ongoing.
