Ford Crown Vic – Seeking Mechanic / Guru
Jobs
Carrboro NC
Description
Looking for a Ford-qualified mechanic with in-depth knowledge, experience (and affection?) for the venerable old Panther platform. This is basically a “gig-like” offering, side work – maybe quite limited, so not at all anything close to “real job” employment. Maybe you're retired - a little extra income while keeping your technical skills in practice, or maybe you're interested in a little on-the-side work to supplement your regular job. My 2004 police-spec Crown Vic (P71) with 133K miles has no discernible MAJOR issues - at least from my standpoint (mechanically naive car enthusiast, not a mechanic). It has never let me down or left me stranded during 7 years of ownership. But there are numerous issues I'm interested in getting fixed. Most pressing for me is a tune-up, including replacement of spark plugs and PCV valve. Engine light is ON. Note: I do NOT have a garage, just front yard space. I am open to work on the car being done at your location, if preferable. If you are not the type for “detailed reading” no need to read all my blather below … but read it if you like. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, PLEASE SHOOT ME AN EMAIL, WITH A PHONE#, AND WE CAN DISCUSS. THANKS! = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Lesser priority items – I would request a labor/parts cost estimate before proceeding: Lubrication of non-engine component(s) - chassis, suspension? - causing some level of squeaking and groaning. Installation of a (Ford) radio/CD player to replace radio. Might also add replacement/upgrade of speakers. Driver door hinge – has lost tension to hold door open Cruise control not working – would only fix if not too complicated/pricey – so just advice/estimate. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - About 2 years ago, I had two shops (one a dealership) look over the car; their findings below (all work that I declined – since then, car has driven 5000 miles flawlessly, no issues) Transmission pan leak (they noted something about “valve body to harness”) - this diagnosis despite zero sign of leakage, and stable fluid level. Exhaust leak – they failed its inspection; I took it to Jiffy Lube where it passed. Upper control arm bushings – broken boot – tie-rod tightening A/C dryer leak (again, A/C has worked superbly during past 2 Carolina summers!) Steering – replace rack assembly For the above 5 items, none of which was completed, the estimate was approx. $2,750 (incl. tax etc.) Your honest “second opinion” about these issues would be appreciated. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
