College students are constantly under stress from incoming deadlines, navigating new territory, forming relationships, and enhancing one's resume. Many physicians, medical students, and even undergraduates are among those who are experiencing stress and burnout. This workshop is inspired by a presentation by John Boockvar, MD, and David Langer, MD, who are accomplished neurosurgeons at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC. The pair addressed the lack of emphasis on self-care and balance in professional settings.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
Students who attend will learn experimentally proven techniques to reduce stress and maintain balance and control in one's personal and professional life.Students who attend will be able to understand the importance of a growth mindset, and how important a healthy mind is for conquering the adversities we are faced with. Students who attend this will realize that they are not a GPA, test score, or linked-in page. They are human beings and need to take time for themselves and nurture a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Every person is unique in their own way, and comparing oneself to the accomplishments of others is a dead-end path.
