Join us as we visit with photographer Xavier Tavera and hear about his latest exhibit series Latinx in Rural Midwest. Please join us Friday, November 5th from 6:30-8PM as we visit with artist Xavier Tavera and her about his experiences traveling the rural midwest photographing Latinx communities. There will be a light meal provided and the reception is free and open to the public. Please wear a mask, and keep in mind that access may be limited in COVID #s are on the rise. It is an exciting exhibit that has been supported by Art in This Present Moment , an initiative of the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation, with funding from the McKnight Foundation, that provides support to artists who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color who are changing and challenging dominant narratives through their craft. This exhibit event is also supported by the Northwest Minnesota Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. This exhibit talk will be followed by a 2 day photography workshop with Tavera (more info to come). In Progress selected Xavier Tavera as a presenting artist for this program. Tavera has been an active artist, exhibitor and mentor for our organization since 2000, working with developing artists both in the Twin Cities and in the rural northwest. We gratefully acknowledge the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation and the McKnight Foundation for providing our organization the opportunity to spotlight his artistry and efforts to honor Latinx throughout our region. In Progress’s mission is to diversify cultural dialogue and pave the way for new voices in the field of digital art making. In Progress provides opportunities for newly developing artists to develop their skills as digital storytellers and leaders through the use of photography, video, music and other forms of digital media. This small non-profit has been promoting the voices of new and emerging artists since its inception in 1996. Those of us that work with In Progress are committed to breaking down barriers of geography, class, education, and culture. We use digital art making as a tool for public discourse, while building the skills of new makers so they may create, teach and lead.
