WALTHAM — Multiple high schools have an increased police presence Thursday following social media posts that referenced violence. According to Waltham Superintendent Brian Reagan, a concerned citizen contacted police to let them know about an online conversation that referenced a shooting at the school. Police determined that the threat was non-specific and similar threats referenced other communities as well, including Lawrence and Haverhill. "While we do not believe there is a safety threat, out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at Waltham High School on Thursday," said Superintendent Brian Reagan in an email to the school community. "If additional information arises, the police will investigate immediately." Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera said there will also be an increased police presence at Lawrence High School due to the threats. Police are continuing to monitor the situation and no further information has been released.
