NEW BERLIN, WI — The New Berlin Police Department plans on joining police departments across the nation with its recent decision to employ body cameras on police officers. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the news first. New Berlin police officers have been slowly testing body cameras from Axon to get a feel for them and their software, the Journal Sentinel reported, but full-time use of them could start by the end of this year. The decision comes months after a fatal police shooting where there were no body cameras. But now, like many other police departments in America, New Berlin Police Captain Mike Glider says the department is adopting them. "We didn't want to be the last ones to have them. I feel like we're somewhere in the middle now," Glider told the Journal Sentinel. The cameras help to prevent misconduct, but also to prevent false claims against the police, Glider told the publication.
