Description

MINEOLA, NY — Residents within the Mineola Public School District will have the opportunity to vote on a $4.25 million proposal that will expand the district's high school campus and provide a dedicated space for a new educational program. The commercial property would be located at 2400 Jericho Turnpike — adjacent to Mineola High School. The purchase will not result in an increase in school taxes, school officials said, adding the expansion would be covered via the district's undesignated fund balance. "Mineola is designing the high school of the future," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Nagler. "This new model of schooling puts the learner at the center, providing students with options for new experiences through internships and opportunities to develop skills outside a typical classroom setting, while still satisfying all high school credits." The district's new program, called Synergy, does away with the traditional 40-minute block teaching format and instead creates a campus-like feel. A vote on the proposal will be on Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Residents can confirm their voting location by visiting the district's website and using the "Polling Place Finder." More information is available on www.mineola.k12.ny.us. A newsletter about the proposal will also be sent to residents in the coming weeks.
