STAMFORD, CT — Stephane Smarth, an officer in the Stamford Police Department for four-and-a-half years, was arrested Wednesday on domestic violence charges, said Stamford Police Chief Timothy Shaw in a news release Thursday. Smarth was charged with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault and second-degree stalking, according to Shaw. Prior to his arrest, Smarth's weapons were secured, and he was placed on administrative leave, "pending the outcome of the investigation," the news release said. Smarth was able to post a $50,000 court-set bond, and was released ahead of a court appearance Thursday. Additionally, Shaw noted that a full no-contact protective order was placed on Smarth.
