City of Middletown Increases Access to Free COVID-19 Testing! Mayor Ben Florsheim to Visit New State-Sponsored Mobile Location at Cross Street AME Zion Church on September 30th. WHAT: Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim and members of the city's department of public health, AME Zion Rev. Robyn Anderson, and community leaders will visit the new drive-thru mobile community COVID-19 test site managed by Wren Laboratories. Earlier this month CT-based Wren Laboratories in partnership with the Connecticut DPH launched free drive-thru mobile community COVID-19 testing centers in Middletown and Meriden and is offering saliva-based PCR tests. The mobile testing site in Middletown is open Tuesdays from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon, and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m. at AME Zion Church. WHEN: Thursday, September 30, 2021, 9 a.m. to noon (Mayor Florsheim from 9 to 9:30 a.m) WHERE: Cross Street AME Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown, CT DETAILS: The COVID-19 tests from Wren Laboratories are different from those offered at local pharmacies and past clinics in that they are saliva-based, and do not require a nasal swab or people to get out of their cars. According to DPH data, there have been 363 confirmed cases in Middletown since Aug. 2. A significant increase to the 85 total cases confirmed in Middletown in June and July combined. Patients will be asked for insurance information, there is no cost or out-of-pocket expense for a COVID test at all State-sponsored locations. All results will be shared with the patients within 36 hours and all tests are processed by Wren Laboratories in its Branford, Conn. laboratory.
