Description

Join us as we explore the Split Oak Forest Wildlife and Environmental Area with local naturalists Mary Keim and Randy Snyder. Join Florida Wildflower Foundation on Saturday, November 6 at 9am for a tour of Split Oak Forest Wildlife and Environmental Area led by naturalists Mary Keim and Randy Snyder. Split Oak contains 11 natural plant communities, including pine flatwoods, hardwood hammock, scrub oak and sandhill. Lakes border the land to the north, providing wetland where many grasses and wildflowers thrive. This field trip will cover approximately 2 miles of walking along some sandy trails. Mary Keim and Randy Snyder have led field trips for 15 years and are active in Orange Audubon and Florida Native Plant Society. Mary is a retired biology instructor from Seminole State College. Randy graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in biology, and has written several booklets about butterflies and wildflowers for Orlando Wetlands Park. Fees: Free for Foundation members and $10 for non-members. We will meet at 9am at the Clapp-Simms-Duda Rd entrance. The field trip will end around noon. In accordance with CDC guidelines, please maintain a safe distance from others. Masks are recommended. Contact Rose Kinane at [email protected] to find out if your membership is current or needs to be renewed. To join as a member, visit FlaWildflowers.org/support.
