Nearly 2K Students, Staff At HCPSS Quarantining Due To COVID-19

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Nearly 2,000 students and staff with the Howard County Public School System are quarantining due to a positive COVID-19 test or having been in close contact with a person who tested positive. According to the school district, 958 students and 35 staff members are in quarantine due to a positive COVID-19 test or as a close contact. Most cases are occurring at the middle school level. The school district releases these numbers weekly. According to the school district, these reported numbers reflect positive test results that have been self-reported to HCPSS. The data reflects the date HCPSS was notified of the positive case and not necessarily the date of the positive test result. There are more than 57,000 students enrolled at HCPSS and an estimated 5,000 staff members. As of Sept. 30, there are 11,339 active COVID-19 cases and a total of 22,115 cases so far in Howard County. There have been 262 deaths in the county due to COVID-19. So far, 232,920 county residents have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 234,131 residents are fully vaccinated.
