Littleton Mother Raising Money To Testify On Daughter's Death

LITTLETON, CO — Teya Turilli of Littleton was killed in a hit-and-run in 2019. Now, her mother and siblings can provide victim impact statements on her death — but only if they travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On July 4, 2019, Charles Carr, 43, allegedly stole Turilli's cellphone and then drove over her, leaving her on the side of Highway 190 and S. Mulatto Bend Road in Louisiana, The West Side Journal reported. Turilli was in a coma for four months before dying on Nov. 8, 2019 after she was pronounced brain dead and taken off of life support. Carr was arrested on Aug. 4, 2020, WAFB reported, and his trial has begun in Baton Rouge. Now, Turilli's mom, Victoria Lucero, and Turilli's siblings are raising money through a GoFundMe to cover their travel and hotel expenses so they can testify at the trial. "They are trying to give the man that took my daughter's life away less than 5 years in prison. He can also get out early on 'good behavior,'" Lucero said. "If me and my kids are able to fly to Baton Rouge, we can hopefully change his sentencing." Lucero is hoping to raise $2,500 — $1,500 for four round-trip plane tickets, $250 for a hotel room, and the rest for food and transportation. "Anything helps.
