Harford Child Hospitalized After COVID-19: Report

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A child in Harford County was reportedly hospitalized for more than a week with multi-system inflammatory syndrome after contracting COVID-19 over the summer. In Harford County, health officials say 5 percent of COVID-19 cases have been those age 0 to 9 years old. Morgan Deitz, 8, was reportedly among them. She got coronavirus along with her sister over the summer, according to WMAR, which reported it wasn't until weeks later that Morgan ended up in the ICU at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center for treatment of multi-system inflammatory syndrome after she became exhausted, suffered stomach pains, had difficulty walking and developed a red rash on her hands. Multi-system inflammatory syndrome can appear in children days or weeks after one has had or been exposed to COVID-19. It may cause fever and a rash, bloodshot eyes, stomach pain, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness or lightheadedness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
