LOS ANGELES, CA —Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) this week was ranked as the No.5 pediatric medical center in the world by Newsweek, when that publication revealed its list of the World's Best Specialized Hospitals 2022. Though it's an annual list, this is the first year that pediatric hospitals were distinctly assessed in Newsweek's medical specialty survey, according to the publication. The published pediatric specialty rankings included 150 hospitals from 19 countries. Working with research firm Statista, Newsweek invited more than 40,000 healthcare providers and hospital leaders from across more than 20 countries to recommend hospitals based on their level of expertise in a given medical subspecialty. "It is a phenomenal honor to be ranked among the premier children's hospitals in the world by the world's foremost medical experts," said Paul S. Viviano, president and CEO of CHLA. "This ranking is more than a number -it is a reflection of the character, quality, expertise and compassion that the doctors, nurses, and other Children's Hospital Los Angeles team members have provided for well over a century." Ranking ahead of CHLA on the list were: Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, CanadaBoston Children's Hospital, BostonChildren's Hospital of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, United Kingdom According to Newsweek, these rankings are designed to help patients and their loved ones "know which hospitals or state-of-the-art facilities have the most accomplished physicians and diagnosticians and offer the highest level of care." Each year, patients come to CHLA from all 50 U.S. states and 90 countries, with the hospital's Center for Global Health facilitating services for international patients and families, the hospital said. "A worldwide top-5 ranking is a testament to our expert clinicians, patient and family-centered experience and reputation both domestic and internationally," said Cindy Urbancic, vice president of the Center for Global Health at CHLA.
