Press release from the City Of Davis: September 29, 2021 3:41 pm Beginning the week of Oct. 4, the City will begin pavement and concrete improvements on 5th Street from Pole Line Rd to L St. and will also implement a new pilot striping concept that includes the addition of a bike lane as well as modifications to the travel lanes and on-street parking.  The order of work is expected to begin with repairs to perform concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter repairs and placement of several driveways, lowering utilities and potholing, grinding of the existing asphalt pavement in the streets and completing any repairs to the subgrade of the street, placing the new asphalt pavement, raising utilities, and placement of new striping on streets.  The City is testing the pilot project to make the 5th Street corridor connecting east Davis to UC Davis safer for people walking and biking.  The City will add bike lanes along 5th Street from Pole Line Rd to L St, removing a vehicle travel lane. 5th Street is a primary bikeway for people commuting to UC Davis and downtown.   Some of the work will be completed during normal business hours (M-F 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), while other work will be scheduled for weekends and in the evenings. Businesses and residents will be notified of this work via door hangers, electronic message boards (already installed), and City social media (Facebook and Nextdoor). As with most construction projects, there may be traffic, dust and noise impacts. The construction will result in lane closures, and there will be delays and impacts to parking during construction.  Businesses and residents directly impacted by the construction area will receive door hangers 48 hours prior to construction. If you receive this notification, please ensure that your driveway, sidewalks, curbs and gutters are accessible on the construction dates listed on the door hanger. Areas that require access will also have posted signage. Construction is expected to be completed mid-November 2021.  Questions?
