Danville: Give Back To Your Community At 'Serve Day'

DANVILLE, CA — Community Presbyterian Church Danville is inviting San Ramon Valley residents to pitch in for its 6th annual Serve Day Weekend to benefit people across the Bay Area. The church is teaming up with 30 secular and faith-based organizations in the East Bay and beyond, and hopes to find about 2,000 volunteers to pitch in this year on Oct. 9 and 10. Whether you're interested in prepping meals for Pleasanton nonprofit Kids Against Hunger, jazzing up San Ramon Valley Unified School District campuses or serving meals to people in San Francisco's Tenderloin district via nonprofit San Francisco City Impact, CPC Danville hopes to find a project to pique your interest. "This is the most fun, hands-on weekend of the year, where we gather thousands of volunteers to go out into our local and regional communities and serve the San Ramon Valley and the greater Bay Area," said Deana Dickerson, CPC director of serve, in a statement. "We're encouraging volunteers to bring themselves, their friends or their entire family! We have projects for all ages." CPC Danville estimates its Serve Day event is the Bay Area's largest volunteer gathering. Last year's Serve Day was held in a scaled-back format amid pandemic-related restrictions and drew about 1,000 people. "God calls us to serve humbly in love," said CPC Lead Pastor Tyler Scott in the statement. "This is an opportunity for any and all to do just that. Everyone is welcome to join us, whether you attend CPC, another church or no church at all." COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place for indoor projects, in accordance with county guidelines.
