CALVERTON — An explosion at a vehicle storage facility at Enterprise Park in Calverton Wednesday night left five vehicles damaged by fire, police said.
According to the Riverhead Police Department, a call came in at 11:24 p.m. about a vehicle explosion on the west runway in Calverton that was being used by Insurance Auto Auctions to store vehicles damaged by Hurricane Ida earlier in September, police said.
Police arrived and found a Tesla fully engulfed in flames, causing nearby cars to catch fire, authorities said.
The Manorville Fire Department was notified and extinguished the flames of all five vehicles that caught fire, police said.
The Riverhead Police Department's detective division, fire marshal, and Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad investigated and determined that the fire was considered not suspicious.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential.
