Description

Join CWS Early Childhood and Grade School faculty for a discussion of first grade readiness on Tuesday, October 13 at 6-7:30pm. Is your child a rising First Grade student? Are you looking for an education that goes beyond rote memorization and testing to encourage creative thinking, curiousity, imagination, and solid social development? Join CWS Early Childhood and Grade School faculty for a discussion of first grade readiness on Tuesday, October 12 at 6-7:30pm in the outdoor Pavilion at the Charlottesville Waldorf School. The First Grade marks a new stage of development, wherein children can begin to shift their focus from developing their physical bodies and becoming part of a group, to the new challenge of academic learning. First grade at the Charlottesville Waldorf School launches an eight-year journey. Leaving Kindergarten, children add thoughtful work to imaginary play. Friendships broaden. New group skills invite wholeness, each child playing their role. The teacher, familiar with each child even before the year begins, forms lessons around daily rhythms; these structure and comfort the children in this new beginning. CWS teachers will share their wealth of experience in assessing rising first grade students for readiness in entering the academic world of grade school, explain the basics of the Waldorf approach to early childhood and elementary education, and answer questions from parents. This event is free and open to the public. Adults only please.
