To close our series of events, we will have a bombazo at the Market Square this Sunday with Ausuba & Melanie Maldonado!
Join us as we close the series of events "The Banyan Tree of the Americas: Music Evolution in the African Diaspora" in a community Bombazo... a bomba jamming session! Our guests from Puerto Rico, the all female group Ausuba, and from Orlando, FL, Melanie Maldonado, will be with us!
Bring your drum, songs, skirt, maraca and enjoy an afternoon of bomba at the Market Square!
Semilla Cultural is a grassroots organization dedicated to preserving and disseminating the traditional Afro-Puerto Rican dance and music genre of bomba through classes, workshops, seminars, performances, and other community events. Bomba is percussion-driven, consisting of drums (called bombas or barriles), a pair of sticks, called cuá, and one maraca. In bomba, the dancer takes a major role as the main drummer (called primo or subidor) follows the dancer’s improvised movements, or piquetes, simultaneously.
