To accommodate our guests, the Society is offering "Safer" Saturdays in its Putnam Exhibit Gallery. We know that many of our guests have concerns regarding COVID-19. To accommodate our guests, the Society is offering "Safer" Saturdays in its Putnam Exhibit Gallery. On these special days, guests will register for a free admission ticket and masks will be required at all times. The maximum number of guests allowed in the gallery at any given time will be limited to 20. Safer Saturdays at the Historical Society is available from 9 am-10 am on the first and third Saturday of each month between October and April. “NH NOW” is a two-year project to photographically record life in New Hampshire. Nearly 50 photographers traveled throughout the state between 2018 and 2020, making thousands of images that collectively create a twenty-first-century portrait of the people, places, culture, and events in New Hampshire. This project documents contemporary life in our state, in much the same way that photography projects of the past have done, such as Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange during the Great Depression and Lewis Hines when he visited the mills of Manchester in the early 1900s. Fifty photographs will be on view at the Historical Society of Cheshire County including many Monadnock region photographs as well as works from other regions of New Hampshire. Cheshire County's photographic artist, Medora Hebert, is highlighted in the show. The project director is seventh NH Artist Laureate, Gary Samson. Eight separate exhibitions of photographs from the New Hampshire Now collection will open simultaneously at partnering venues around the state on October 1, 2021. The locations include: New Hampshire Historical Society; Manchester Historic Association; Museum of the White Mountains, Plymouth State University; Portsmouth Historical Society/Discover Portsmouth; Colby-Sawyer College, New London; Belknap Mill, Laconia; and the Tillotson Center, Colebrook The Historical Society of Cheshire County provides 160 programs per year to make history come alive for people of all ages. The Historical Society of Cheshire County headquarters are located at 246 Main Street in Keene, New Hampshire, as well as the Wyman Tavern period house museum, built in 1762.
