Learn how to implement animal assisted therapy or activities in hospice and palliative care programming. Learn how to effectively incorporate animal assisted therapy and/or animal assisted activities within the hospice and palliative care environment. Discover the skills and techniques needed by both handler and canine to be a successful therapy dog team. About the Presenter: Haylee Bergeland, KPA-CTP, CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA, is graduate student earning a master's in gerontology and mental health and completing research focused in human-animal interactions and grief support. She holds a BS degree in Psychology and an AAS degree in Animal Science. She is a professional dog trainer, behavior consultant , and animal training and behavior writer, editor, and public speaker. She is the Executive Director of Animal Assisted Professionals, a 501(c)(3)nonprofit dedicated to the professionalization of animal assisted interventions (AAI) and the training, preparing, and certifying of therapy animal teams. Haylee previously worked as a hospice social worker and currently provides grief support groups. She has worked and volunteered as a therapy animal handler and trainer within hospice and palliative care for over a decade.
