Press release from the Port Jefferson School District: Sept. 29, 2021 Edna Louise Spear Elementary School fifth graders connected with students from across the world during class activities for the International Day of Peace. Students in Christine Wicks' and Christine Bokina and Kristi Krieg's classes learned about the Peace Crane Project as well as how to fold an origami crane and write a message of peace on its wings. Laura Kelly and Paige Lohmann's class wrote letters to peers in a school in Essex, United Kingdom, that described the Port Jefferson school community and what it is like to grow up in a close-knit village by the harbor. "It was a fun project and the students enjoyed learning about the International Day of Peace," Ms. Kelly said. "Their efforts are empowering in making a difference in the school, community, country and world." This press release was produced by the Port Jefferson School District.
