Press release from Kanawha County Schools: 09/29/2021 The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center on the campus of FSU is dedicated to the preservation and perpetuation of West Virginia's rich cultural history. It is the home of the Ruth Ann Musick Folklore Archives. Dr. Musick was a folklorist and teacher at Fairmont State College. She is known for her books, "The Telltale Lilac Bush and Other West Virginia Folktales", "Coffin Hollow and Other Ghost Tales", and "Green Hills of Magic: West Virginia Folktales from Europe". The Center houses academic minors in folklore and museum studies and offers outreach programs that are free and open to the public such as the Phyllis W. Moore Author Series. The Center is available for school tours and special programming. The "Trunk of Tales" will be circulated through KCS middle schools. In addition to the books, the trunk also includes voice recorders for students to use to capture their own family folktales.
