GLEN COVE, NY — A Glen Cove man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking and illegal firearm charges and admitting to selling a synthetic opioid that killed another resident. Ira Hall, a.k.a. "The Streets," was sentenced Tuesday for distributing cocaine and the unlawful use of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking in August 2017. The decision comes roughly three months after Hall, 33, told prosecutors he sold a fatal dose of fentanyl to a co-conspirator who then provided it to a 27-year-old victim. "(Tuesday's) sentence ensures that the defendant will serve a lengthy prison term for selling dangerous drugs while carrying a firearm, and also for callously causing the fentanyl overdose death of a resident of this district," said Jacquelyn M. Kasulis, the acting U.S. district attorney for the Eastern District of New York. "This Office, together with our federal and local partners, will continue to prosecute and hold accountable those who contribute to the opioid epidemic and overdose deaths in our communities." The sentencing stems from an incident in August 2017, when Hall was arrested for selling cocaine in a Taco Bell parking lot while carrying a loaded .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver. The following day, authorities executed a search warrant on Hall's home and found additional rounds of .38 caliber ammunition. At the time of his arrest, Glen Cove police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal overdose, officials said.
