ORANGE, CT — A man accused of having over 5,000 fentanyl pills in his possession was arrested Tuesday after a traffic stop on Interstate 95 in Orange, according to the Connecticut State Police. In a news release, state police said officers stopped a 2009 Toyota with Pennsylvania plates for a motor vehicle violation in Orange. The driver was found to have approximately 5,238 fentanyl pills pressed to look like Xanax pills and weighing a total of 766 grams in his possession, state police said. The driver, who was not identified by police, was arrested and transported to Troop G in Bridgeport. He was held on a $200,000 bond. According to state police, the arrest was part of a joint operation involving the department's Statewide Narcotics Task Force and the DEA-New Haven Office, who worked together to conduct domestic highway enforcement on I-95 in the New Haven area. "This is part of the collaborative efforts of State and Federal Law enforcement agencies working to proactively address the trafficking of opioids, other narcotics and weapons into the New England area," state police said in a news release.
