Here are the top four stories today in Laurel: During these first several weeks of returning to the classroom, more than 4,000 Maryland public school students have tested positive for COVID. According to data from the Maryland State Department of Education, another 16,500 have been quarantined because they came in close contact with someone who had COVID-19. (Baltimore Sun) A shortage of more than 200 bus operators in Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS) caused existing staff to pick up additional routes without the extra pay. According to School transportation supervisor Carl Schuettler, administrators had hoped to weather the labor shortage under the old system. Therefore, PGCPS is temporarily changing how it compensates its bus drivers. (WTOP)Maryland University of Integrative Health is now offering a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Culinary Health and Healing. According to a press release, this program is one of only a few graduate programs in the U.S. that focuses on the emerging field of culinary health and medicine. The program blends the nutrition and culinary fields and prepares students with the scientifically based principles and practices of whole foods selection and preparation as a foundation for health and wellness. Landis was nominated by the Prince George's County Democratic Central Committee. She worked for the Prince George's School System for 30 years.
