LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Increased fees are coming to Loudoun County's landfill. Fees at the Loudoun County Solid Waste Management Facility in Leesburg will increase by about 10 percent on Monday, Oct. 18. The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors approved the fee increase after a recent financial study raised concerns about the landfill's financial viability. Supervisors believed this fee increase will help keep the facility "financially sound," the county said in a news release. The minimum charge per customer will also increase from $6 to $7. Certain items, such as tires and propane tanks, require additional charges. More information about the landfill fees are available on the county's website. Mike Fairbanks is the Department of General Services Waste Management Division Manager for Loudoun County. "Fees at the landfill have remained flat since 2012 and we want to make sure that the services we provide at the landfill, which are very popular with the community, continue well into the future," Fairbanks said. In addition to its trash disposal services, the landfill also acts as a recycling center. Residents can drop off bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard to be reused.
