MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A Trenton man was indicted on nine counts by a Mercer County grand jury this week, in the shooting death of a 16-year-old in Trenton, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said Wednesday. Keith N. Jordan, 30, was charged with the July shooting death of 16-year-old Dion Ellis. Jordan faced a number of charges including first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and two counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Onofri said. He is being held in the Mercer County Correction Center pending trial. On Monday, July 5, 2021, around 12:45 a.m., police responded to the area of Prospect Street and Stuyvesant Avenue and found a victim, later identified as 16-year-old Ellis, shot in the head, Onofri said. Ellis was pronounced dead at the scene. A second 16-year-old male was transported to the hospital and treated for a gunshot wound to the leg, authorities said. While conducting an initial canvas of the scene, officers found eight shell casings and area video surveillance identified a suspect vehicle, which was traced back to Jordan, Onofri said. During a search warrant conducted on Jordan's 2016 Toyota Camry, Onofri said detectives recovered a 9mm handgun with a 33-round extended magazine, hollow-point bullets, and an empty 10-round magazine. The incident was investigated by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department, Onofri said. Thank you for reading. Have a correction or news tip?
