Description

Press release from the City of Santa Cruz: 09/27/2021 3:00 PM   FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE   Sept. 27, 2021   Contacts:  Janice Bisgaard, Community Relations Specialist, (831) 420-5166 Ricardo Valdés, Senior Professional Engineer, (831) 420-5198    SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — The City of Santa Cruz continues construction of the Bay Drive Storm Repair Project this week. A pedestrian/bike detour is in effect given closure of the Bay Drive walkway/path from Nobel Drive to Escalona Drive for the duration of the project which is expected to conclude in mid-October. The west embankment of Bay Creek (approx. 600 feet south of Nobel Drive) has eroded due to heavy run-off that occurred during the winter of 2018. The erosion has impacted the existing pedestrian/bike trail running along Bay Drive and making it unsafe for users. While the path has remained open, temporary safety measures have been in place. This project will redirect the creek away from the eroded bank, rebuild and stabilize the bank and repair the path. This consists of earthwork to relocate the existing channel, reconstruction of the eroded slope, vegetation planting, erosion control, and paving this portion of the path with asphalt concrete. The $140,000 project is funded locally through the General Capital Improvement Fund. Work will be completed by American Enviro Services, Inc. during weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The City apologizes for any inconvenience this construction work may cause and appreciates the public's cooperation.  Any concerns or questions may be addressed to Project Manager Ricardo Valdés, at (831) 420-5198 or [email protected].   This press release was produced by the City of Santa Cruz.
