Description

Press release from the City of Santa Cruz: 09/28/2021 3:31 PM California's eviction moratorium expires Sept. 30, which means landlords will be able to begin removing tenants for failing to pay rent during the pandemic. However, renters can take advantage of some limited protections through March, but they must apply for rent relief from the state by Sept. 30. Eviction Protection  If a tenant can show a landlord that he or she has applied for aid through the Housing Is Key program If a tenant has paid at least 25% of pandemic-owed rent by Sept. 30, he or she is generally protected from eviction. By state law, a tenant cannot be evicted for debt accrued between March and August 2020, although landlords can sue in small claims court to recover the money. Apply for Rental Assistance  The CA COVID-19 Rent Relief program provides financial assistance for rent and utilities to income-eligible California renters and their landlords who have been impacted by COVID-19. Both renters and landlords can apply for assistance. Apply now.
