TINLEY PARK, IL — COVID-19 cases around the world have fluctuated over the past year. Here in Tinley Park, cases are beginning to decrease after weeks of being on the rise, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.
The health department's latest statistics on the virus show that 53 cases have been recorded in the village within this past week. According to the department, the percent change in confirmed cases in the past 14 days is negative 21 percent in Tinley Park. Since the start of the pandemic, the village has had a total of 5,924 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the department reports.
More than half of the village has been inoculated with both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the health department, 35,935, or 73 percent of Tinley Park residents, have received at least one dose of a vaccine. People who are fully vaccinated with two doses include 30,416 or nearly 62 percent of Tinley Park residents. Over 55 thousand people live in Tinley Park, Census data shows.
Cook County in general has a 2.9 percent positivity rate. Since the start of the pandemic, 279,120 Cook County residents have tested positive for the virus, and 4,680 have died. The department reports that the county currently has a high community transmission level.
