ORLAND PARK, IL — COVID-19 cases around the world have fluctuated over the past year. Here in Orland Park, cases are beginning to decrease after weeks of being on the rise, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health. The health department's latest statistics on the virus show that 90 cases have been recorded in the village within this past week. According to the department, the percent change in confirmed cases in past 14 days is negative four percent in Orland Park. Since the start of the pandemic, the village has had a total of 7,460 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the department reports. More than half of the village has been inoculated with both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the health department, 44,021, or 77 percent of Orland Park residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine. People who are fully vaccinated with two doses include 37,000 or nearly 66 percent of Orland Park residents. Over 57 thousand people live in Orland Park, Census data shows. Cook County in general has a 2.9 percent positivity rate. Since the start of the pandemic, 279,120 Cook County residents have tested positive for the virus, and 4,680 have died.
