OAK FOREST, IL — COVID-19 cases around the world have fluctuated over the past year. Here in Oak Forest, cases are beginning to decrease after weeks of being on the rise, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.
The health department's latest statistics on the virus show that 40 cases have been recorded in the city within this past week. According to the department, the percent change in confirmed cases in the past 14 days is negative 12 percent in Oak Forest. Since the start of the pandemic, the city has had a total of 3,484 confirmed COVID-19 cases, the department reports.
More than half of the city has been inoculated with both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. According to the health department, 17,179, or 61 percent of Oak Forest residents, have received at least one dose of a vaccine. People who are fully vaccinated with two doses include 14,222 or nearly 51 percent of Oak Forest residents. Over 26 thousand people live in Oak Forest, Census data shows.
Cook County in general has a 2.9 percent positivity rate. Since the start of the pandemic, 279,120 Cook County residents have tested positive for the virus, and 4,680 have died. The department reports that the county currently has a high community transmission level.
