PLAINFIELD, IL — Last Friday night's apparent drowning of a 21-month-old girl at her family's home on Chestnut Street is not considered a suspicious death, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's officials said an autopsy was performed by the Will County Coroner's Office on Saturday, and the little girl's death is not considered the result of foul play.
The Will County Sheriff's Office said that deputies went to the house around 10 p.m. on Sept. 24 after learning that a child drowned at the family's house in Plainfield Township.
A Plainfield ambulance rushed the child to the AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, and the child was pronounced dead around 10:50 p.m.
Will County Sheriff's detectives are now investigating the case as a sudden death investigation, according to spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer. As in all sudden death incidents that are deemed unexpected or unusual, the sheriff's office is required to investigate, she said.
No one is in custody and no charges have been filed, Hoffmeyer said.
