Press release from the Chicago Public Library: September 29, 2021 The Chicagoland area has long been home to one of the largest Polish populations outside of Europe! From the Polish Museum of America, Pulaski Park and Thaddeus Kosciuszko Monument to the annual Polish Constitution Day Parade and Copernicus Foundation, Chicago is filled with Polish tradition that has been an integral part of our city's culture for generations. Join Chicago Public Library in celebrating Polish American Heritage Month in October with a variety of special events for all ages in recognition of the vital contributions people of Polish descent have made to our country in the arts, the sciences, scholarship, and every area of endeavor. Highlights include: Polish American Heritage Month events Adults and Teens Research Your Family History with the Polish Genealogical Society of America 11 a.m. Thursday, October 7 and 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 26 Get a step-by-step introduction to sleuthing out your family tree from the President of the Polish Genealogical Society of America. Virtual Tour of Poland, the Land of Fields, with Robert Pine 1 p.m. Thursday, October 14 Robert Pine will share from his personal experiences across Poland why this country is an overlooked gem as a travel destination. Let's Celebrate Polish American Heritage 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 20 Get social and meet new people at this online get-together. Kids Paint Your Story: Your Voice on Canvas for Kids 6 p.m. Monday, October 18 and 11 a.m. Saturday, October 30. Polish artist Patricia Stepniak will use mixed media and Polish folk tales to inspire kids as they create their very own picture stories.
