Abortion Trigger Bill: Lakewood Politician Rips Republicans

LAKEWOOD, OH — A new piece of legislation that would outlaw all abortions in Ohio was introduced this week. State Sen. Nickie Antonio condemned the bill on Wednesday. Senate Bill 123 would go into effect if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe vs. Wade. The legislation outlaws all abortions and does not contain exceptions for rape or incest. The legislation had its first hearing in the Senate Health Committee on Wednesday. "I'm disgusted that Republicans are considering this extreme legislation, which bans abortion with no exceptions for rape and incest. This bill does not represent the views of the majority of Ohioans," Antonio, a Democrat from Lakewood, said in a statement. Live in Lakewood? "Republicans introduce this kind of legislation under the guise of protecting life, but women will begin to die the moment we severely restrict access to abortions and other reproductive care in this state," she added. Senate Bill 123 also bans promoting abortion, and makes illegal having any drugs that terminate pregnancies. Antonio argued extreme legislation, like Senate Bill 123, will drive young people out of Ohio and depress businesses who do not want to force employees into an oppressive state. However, patients will have to prove the necessity of the operation. A doctor could also have their license revoked if they perform an abortion and leaves medical officials open to lawsuits.
