TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department says a woman was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with serious injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash on University Boulevard Wednesday morning.

In an update provided to local media Wednesday afternoon, TPD said the 48-year-old victim was stopped at a red light in the eastbound lanes of University Boulevard waiting to turn left onto 24th Avenue East when she was rear-ended by the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro. As a result of the impact, the woman was thrown from her 2007 Toyota Scion xB and suffered serious injuries.
Additionally, TPD said the impact from the rear-end collision pushed her vehicle across the westbound lanes of oncoming traffic, resulting the the passenger side being struck by a third vehicle involved — a 2007 Toyota Yaris.
After being transported to the hospital, the victim was listed in serious but stable condition as of Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
Officers with TPD's Accident Reconstruction Unit are investigating the circumstancessurrounding the crash.
