Description
Human trafficking and exploitation has become a major crime in rural America. Increased isolation due to the pandemic has made it easier for predators to target vulnerable people. In a rural setting where people do not have that much face to face contact any way, weeks or even month pass before friends or neighbors take notice that someone has not actually been seen or heard from in person. With the various virtual social media sites that are so popular, it is easy to make it look like everything is normal even though it might not be the actual person making the post. We usually think of younger people being the target, but older people are actually more vulnerable because they have fewer social contacts or relatives who would notice something was not quite right.
This is an overview survey to assess the problem in Grayson County, Virginia. Please help by sending us a brief message about any suspicious situations concerning someone you stopped hearing from. It could be an older person that lived alone, but often younger people go missing and are not reported by family for fear of trouble with the law. Think back several years and please contribute any thoughts you have. Thank you.
We will look at your information for similarities and common threads that shed light on this problem. It may lead to uncovering something not previously noticed and be of help to someone.
