The Cape and Islands Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will kick off their 70th Anniversary Year with a free concert on Sunday October 3 at 3:00 PM at The First Congregational Church of Yarmouth. The church is located at 329 Main Street (Rt 6A ) in Yarmouth Port. The guest Organist will be Dr. Steve Young, Professor of Music at Bridgewater State University. Dr. Young holds degrees in organ performance from Barrington College, New England Conservatory and Boston University with both a national and international reputation as an outstanding recitalist. Dr. Young’s program will consist of works of such renown composers as Johann Gottfried Walther, Zachary Wadsworth, Eleanor Whitsett, Felix Mendelssohn and others. Works will include compositions based on such familiar hymn as It is well with my soul, America the beautiful, Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, and All hail the power of Jesus’ name. Other works include a fugue on America and an Organ Concerto in the style of Antonio Vivaldi. This is a free concert and open to the public. Reception and celebration will follow as we begin this 70th Anniversary Year of The Cape and Islands Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
