Bihl Haus Arts will host an artist reception for “Below and Above the Waves" photographic works by Mark Mayfield. Mayfield has always loved nature, and it informs his photographic practice today. A childhood fascination with his small family aquarium grew into a life-long passion for the inhabitants of coral reefs around the world. Sadly, many of the coral environments in this group of photographs, which were taken several years ago, have been greatly diminished due to coral bleaching. In recent years, birding has become part of his outdoor adventures and he’s also taken a big interest in plants. This exhibition, which combines these interests, challenges viewers to become good stewards and be mindful of the planet we inhabit. Mayfield has been involved in all facets of print design for 32 years. Presently he works for Litho Press, Inc. helping clients get their project– book, catalog, poster or magazine–to print. Photographically, Mayfield ran a digital photo studio in Kansas City and did work for Bass Pro Shops, Readers Digest, IBM, Xerox, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Denali Wilderness Lodge, Silvertip on the Unalakleet, Rio Parismina Lodge, Jaguar Paw Lodge, Blackbird Caye Lodge and others. His wildlife photos have been sold and published in Self magazine, National Wildlife, Mall of the Americas, Vivarium, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Sporting Classics, Texas Outback, Texas Wildlife, Magnum Belize, Browning’s Trip South, Zoo Life and Clubhouse Jr. For more information, www.BihlHausArts.org or call (210) 383-9723.
