Description

We are looking to rehome our dog, Bentley. We love Bentley very much, but our family has changed and despite extensive efforts to adapt and keep him in our home, we know that what is best for him and our family is to find a new home that can provide him the environment in which he can thrive in. The addition of our son, who is now a toddler, has been hard for Bentley. Bentley can be reactive when stressed and the chaos of small children has created an unhappy environment for him. Bentley is a 8 year old, 65 lb heeler/shepard/border collie mix who is looking for the perfect home to spend his golden years in. Bentley’s ideal home would be a quiet, without children or other dogs, where he could be his person’s loyal, mellow companion. Bentley seems to prefer women to men, so he would fit well with a single female, or with a couple with the understanding that he will likely bond more with just one partner. He needs a person savvy with anxious dogs and dog communication. Bentley loves walks and mellow trail adventures, and easy to walk on leash and has good recall off leash. He is restricted in some activities due to a previous injury. Bentley is VERY food motivated and easy to train. He has superb house manners, stays off furniture and has never been destructive. Bentley will tell you if someone is at the door or by the home, and would do best in a house not an apartment. Though he would love to nap nearby while his person worked from home or in the garden, he does fine when they are away from the house. Bentley is very loyal to his person, and will sometimes guard them from other people if he feels they are threatened by mouthing feet or hands in an attempt to direct them away. Bentley will also use mouthing, headbutts and whining to correct behavior that makes him nervous, such as yelling or loud bursts of laughter from a person he is not comfortable with yet. His nickname is the Shenanigan Sheriff. He would love a home that did not have a lot of people moving through it, and provided tranquility and routine. Bentley currently takes Fluoxetine to help with his anxiety, and exercise and mental stimulation (decompression walks) help him too. Bentley is a sweet boy, and deserves a peaceful home with people who understand him. His anxiety triggers are pretty easy to predict and work around. He has a lot of wonderful qualities and would make the right person a great companion. Bentley has a wonderful trainer that we hope he will continue to work with in his new family. To help with a successful transition we will cover the first few sessions with his trainer. If you are interested in learning more about Bentley, please reach out!
